Thankfully ours was one of the flights that hadn’t been cancelled and the road had been clear enough to get down from Edinburgh on Christmas Eve despite how much show had fallen. It was really great to see the farm covered in snow!

The snow continued to fall for the rest of the weekend and it was quite cold, but we still walked around Melrose in the rain and the snow. Each walk being followed by tea and carrot cake and warming my toes on the radiator.

So these photos below are from the walks around Melrose. We walked up past the hospital, through the village and along the river.

The Tweede hadn’t frozen, but there was still snow and ice on the rocks in the river. I wonder how cold it would have to be before it would freeze?

The scenery on the drive back to Edinburgh was amazing, so much snow and such clear skies! At times the temperature readings were -7ºC and it was during one of these stretches that we decided to get out and take some photos. Richard landed up trying to walk on 7 inches of snow and getting wet up to his knees! So most of the photos are taken from in the car on the drive instead.

I was glad to have been able to see the farm while it was covered in snow. Along with seeing everyone and spending some time slowing down, that was the highlight of the trip!
