Me, Rachel Swailes. My blog about stuff I get up to in and around the Western Cape, Cape Town, George, Wilderness, Hermanus and other cool places :)

Table Mountain

Cable Car

I’ve only been up by Cable Car at night. In the summer they have a half price special after 7pm. It’s great to take a picnic up the mountain and watch the sunset.

Platteklip Gorge

Drive to the cable station and find somewhere on that road to park. The trail starts from next to the lower cable station and follows the base of the mountain until the gorge. This walk is *very* steep up and down and I remember having wobbly knees on the drive home. The views get beautiful very fast though. Just watch out as the weather can turn very quickly, and take a warm jacket as it can be quite chilly at the top.

Skeleton Gorge

This was my favorite way up the mountain so far. Park at the nursery entrance at Kirstenbosch, pay the entrance fee and then proceed to the back of the restaurant / coffee house there. The walk is well signposted and the views also get spectacular quickly. Don’t attempt after heavy rain however, as there is a section where you are scrambling up the rocks which become slippery when wet. At the top there is the reservoir where you can enjoy your lunch.
